Hello dolls! Yes it has been a hot minute, but I'm back. This is my very first blog post of 2018 and I really would appreciate some love and feedback.
My first impression of getting the actual product was, "I wish they sent one nude color and one bold color, instead of two nudes that were pretty close in the color range". Anyhow, I was really excited to try these because I remember getting these in at my store and setting up the displays. I wanted to buy one, but I didn't want it to be a waste of money if I didn't like it. When I first put one of these on, it felt like a soft pillow brushing against my lips. The application was smooth and weightless. The color goes on soft, but you can build it up right away because the formula dries fast. CoverGirl claims that these matte lipsticks are suppose to last through eating and drinking for up to 24 hours, which is a bold claim, since no one wears lipstick for that long. Although, I will say that it did last though a meal I had. It also stayed on up until I removed it later that night. Many matte lippies I've tried in the past were very drying. I always put lip balm under my mate lipsticks, but I find that this formula doesn't do well with that method depending on your lip balm of choice. Skip the balm if you can, but if you are like me and must put a lip balm underneath (my lips are too dry to skip), I suggest you go with something like Nivea lip balm. This lip balm sinks into the lips more so it doesn't create a glossy effect. Stay away from ones like the Vaseline tins on this one, since the formula won't dry smooth and create streaks.
Since the first thing I thought about when opening the box was color, I was immediately drawn to Ballerina, it was more of a pink nude. I figured this color would be best for my skin tone, but I was so wrong. Even though I like the color, it didn't look that great on me. Adding the Glittz top coat, actually made this color look better on me, but alas I didn't like the formulation of the topcoat. It was way too stick and I hate (WITH A PASSION!!!) sticky lip gloss. This product was a big no for me on the first try. I will say that if you do love the look it gives to the lipsticks, then go wiht a light coat. Current Nude was more of my color. It had a more mauve undertone, giving it a more natural look. It looked great on its own, and I actually wore it out all day.
In conclusion, my overall view of this line is that I love them. I will definitely purchase on my own, but I'll try a deeper color. I was looking at Back Talk and All Nighter as an option. I think that it's best to stay away from the top coat since it's too sticky. You can check the video on my InstaStories Highlights (Beauty @marleyandmarcel) for my honest first impressions. You actually can see what the colors look like on me, and how the top coat affects the color of the lipsticks. I hope this review was helpful. Thanks for stopping by, kisses!
